Disability Rights Florida v. Florida Department of Corrections (II)

Disability Rights Florida (DRF), Florida’s federally funded Protection and Advocacy organization for individuals with disabilities, has brought suit against the Florida Department of Corrections over its systemic failure to comply with a settlement agreement signed by both parties in July 2017.  DRF is represented by the Florida Justice Institute and Morgan & Morgan, P.A.

The case is proceeding through discovery, and is currently set for trial in September 2021.

In November 2021, another historic settlement agreement was reached on behalf of incarcerated people with disabilities that preserves the many of the requirement of the original settlement and includes more protections. FJI is currently monitoring the implementation of the settlement.
