The event will be held on Aug, 23rd from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the University of Miami.

In many Florida counties, including Miami-DadeVolusia and Pinellas, laws require dog kennels to provide air conditioning and air ventilation to keep animals safe during sweltering temperatures. There are no similar laws protecting prisoners.

The event will feature remarks from Florida’s Deputy House Democratic Leader Shevrin Jones (D-West Park) as well as the formerly incarcerated individuals and families of those affected by these brutal conditions.

Additional sponsors include: University of Miami Sociology & Criminology Club, University of Miami School of Law and Hope Public Interest Resource Center.

For nearly three decades, FAMM has united the voices of affected families, the formerly incarcerated, and a range of stakeholders and advocates to fight for a more fair and effective justice system. FAMM’s focus on ending a one-size-fits-all punishment structure has led to reforms to sentencing and prison policies in 6 states and is paving the way to programs that support rehabilitation for the 94% of all prisoners who will return to our neighborhoods one day.
