Michael J. Langley became Executive Director of FJI in December 2023. Prior to his arrival he recently served as Director of the Social Impact & Racial Equity Advancement Project at Greater Phoenix Leadership, a consortium of Arizona’s most influential business CEOs focusing on quality-of-life issues since 1974, and as Racial Equity Advisor for the nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution DreamSpring.
Over his career, Mike worked to close both the wealth and opportunity gaps and helped develop long-term solutions to address criminal justice, economic development, education, gentrification and homelessness, social enterprise, and more. With this foundation as an advocate for equity, he collaborated on a pilot with the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) and R3 Score Technologies to provide formerly incarcerated returning citizens with entrepreneurship capital as an anti-recidivism tool.
Mike has also partnered with and/or leveraged data from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections, Brookings Institution, Business Roundtable, CEO Action for Racial Equity, Citigroup, Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), Mission Launch, National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP), Responsible Business Initiative for Justice (RBIJ), Second Chance Business Coalition (SCBC), etc. to rethink, pursue, and implement smarter, fiscally-sound approaches to criminal legal reform and housing insecurity, respectively.
Phoenix Business Journal named Mike to its prestigious 40 Under 40 list for his ability to deploy a robust knowledge base and skillset to effect change with decision-makers and stakeholders at all levels of the government, business, and social sectors. After he obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami, Mike earned both his Executive Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Legal Studies, Law and Economics from the University of Arizona.
