FJI Calls for Manatee County to Evacuate Jail to Protect Incarcerated People from Toxic Water

The Piney Point phosphate processing plant is threatening to release 300 million gallons of toxic water throughout Manatee County, causing flooding of up to 20 feet.  Residents have been ordered to evacuate, but thus far the sheriff has refused to evacuate the jail, which is within the evacuation zone.  FJI, along with numerous community partners, are calling for an immediate and complete evacuation of the jail to preserve the health and safety of those incarcerated there.

  1. They have the right to be evacuated like everyone else just because they are in jail some of them made mistakes and they have to suffer the consequences but that doesn’t include jeopardizing their health and life that sheriff is not god maybe he need to go to jail!
